The Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB) BTV Innovation Cluster Hub serves Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz counties. The regional entrepreneurship focus of their Institute for Innovation & Economic Development (iiED) supports entrepreneurs, innovators and the startup community in their region. The iiED, under the startup Monterey Bay brand, provides training, workshops, events, competitions, infoirmation about local resources, and opportunities to connect and network. iiED conducts research, creates innovative business projects, and supports students and entrepreneurs alike in their creative quest for business opportunities. iiED’s entrepreneurship programs are open to all students and community members.

Startup Challenge Monterey Bay is a regional new business competition and acceleration program for entrepreneurs in Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties. The Challenge is held annually, organized by a team of community volunteers and hosted by iiED. It is a competitive acceleration process that teaches, coaches, mentors, networks, and connects prospective entrepreneurs, start-ups, and emerging companies to the knowledge and resources they need. The Challenge empowers entrepreneurs to communicate their ideas effectively to investors, customers and employees.
