ABOUT BLUETECHVALLEY
Central California’s San Joaquin Valley is the birthplace of the BlueTechValley Initiative. The Valley’s water-scarce climate and vital role in U.S. food production fuel the need for water-efficient technology and management. This need has created an innovation hotbed to develop, test, and commercialize new technology.

The program is the result of a grant from the California Energy Commission awarded in 2016 to help advance California’s energy innovation industry.
BlueTechValley Innovation Cluster
California Energy Commission funding supports the first major innovation expansion in the BlueTechValley: the Central Valley Regional Innovation Cluster. The Water, Energy and Technology Center developed and manages an innovation ecosystem serving 39 California counties covering two-thirds of the state. Since 2016 the WET Center has provided energy, water and agtech startups with legal, business, and technical services.

The innovation ecosystem consists of six regional BlueTechValley Innovation Hubs and includes a wide network of partners providing incubator, accelerator, and entrepreneurship programs. The designated Cluster Hubs are located on California State University campuses in Bakersfield, Chico, Fresno, Humboldt, Monterey and Sacramento

Disadvantaged Communities Program: The BlueTechValley Innovation Cluster places a distinct focus on outreach and services to disadvantaged communities across the Central Valley Region. Targeted outreach in both English and Spanish will lead to a better understanding of energy use in some of the most historically underrepresented communities in California. Promoting opportunities for innovators and entrepreneurs to eliminate or reduce barriers to energy conservation should lead to improved energy efficiency.
Underserved Regions and Populations: All program outreach and services has a strong focus on underserved regions including rural and low-wealth communities and underserved populations including Asian, Black/African American, Latinx/Hispanic, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+), Native American or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, veterans and women.
